We'll I guess you all are too darn clever! I am only stuck on one and even the fancy people at the answerbank allude to it. What is the unchecked letter in 19d? I can see potential reference to an aromatic substance but not bandages..,..

19 D. Bandages are covered with aromatic substance (6)
The aromatic substance is what you think it is, and 'are' gives 'a' - once you've inserted that, the resulting word means 'bandages' and is in Chambers.

Thanks. I just got that from looking up bandage in Bradfords. I really don't like a for are though. I also think this is maybe wrong as the omitted 3rd letter is not in the associated quadrant as per the preamble.

Mmm, I see what you mean! I'll have to have another think, another look.

Mind you, if you treat the answers before entry into the grid with the deficiency associated with where they start and then also apply the extra deficiencies for the other quadrants they enter, but only for the parts that enter that quadrant, you just about get away with it I suppose.

Hence 32a works and that really has to be what I have entered!

Good to have a gentle one after last weekend's monstrosity. Just not quite seeing the wordplay for 22d.

No, me neither to be honest (o=over, house=timpany maybe?) and I don't quite see how 17d is derived from 20a without some anagramistic efforts. I just made up that word I think. Seems appropriate though 8-)

In 22 D, the first four letters, untreated, of the answer are, when reversed('set up' , a house - it's in Chambers. The O gives over and the Ch is Church.
