Angelic, very good. (G) Ang + (T) elic. The G is the extra letter here (as the dropped T is referenced in the clue, 'saving time')

Thanks Malone am struggling with how to enter the down clues with the indicated phrase which seems weird.

Any nudge welcome! Know the bigger picture but can't get the down stuff!

I didn't think of it as a phrase (for the central section) - more two, different ways. One part of the 'outer sections are entered in two further ways' was pretty straightforward, the other was a bit trickier.
