26 ac: Spurious appeal lodged by Physics unit, commonly (6)
Have ?R?A?Z. Could be ersatz or not?

ER(SA)TZ - Physics unit commonly ERTZ (hertz). SA - sex appeal.

17a menthol (hidden in the clue)

26a ersatz (sa is sex appeal)

Menthol is contained in the clue

Should have spotted menthol!
