Having trouble parsing these, help appreciated....

11a God! Writer has lost one lot of gold (4) - THOR (God)

I thought it might be 'Writer' = THOREAU minus 'Gold' = AU but that leaves an E so I think I've gone wrong somewhere.

8d Size of boarding house at first obscured by dark (9) - DIMENSION (Size)

27a Prepare to sleep in wooden seat (6) - SETTEE/SETTLE ?

Hi Elle, I thought this one was quite tricky, not helped by over thinking the Author/Thoreau clue and not knowing the 'Seat' definition of SETTLE or the 'Boarding house' definition of PENSION!

Hi, Brendan!
"pension" is the French for "boarding house".
I don't think we use the word in English?
