Thanks Malone. I was looking for an anagram of bore and ban but where does the rest come from?

Emerson, American writer. Schemers are the planners, drop the 'sch', school. Emers+On, working.

I can't parse Robber Baron - sorry.

think the actual clue said billions rather than millions. makes parsing a bit easier!

Thanks Malone and tatters. Either my typo or autocorrect made billions into millions. So, tatters, how does it parse with billions...I still can't see it? And I'd thought of Emerson because he crops up from time to time as an American writer in these puzzles but I'd over complicated 3d and given myself a T instead of an S. Could blame the hot weather but it's cooler today!

Or even an R instead of an S

awful bore without billions - robe

runs = r + r
ban = ban
over = o

which stitched together comes to robber baron. wouldn't bet my life on it but it was good enough for me to move on
