Having trouble with the wordplay for a couple, help much appreciated.....

1a Take in? (4,4) - HALF INCH

I know 'Half Inch' is cockney rhyming slang for 'Pinch', but that doesn't tally with 'Take in' so I think I've missed something.

3d Dodgy dealer keeps cracking ceramic items (7) - FAIENCE (Ceramic items)

I think 'Dodgy dealer' might be FENCE, but can't see where the AI comes from.

6d Do away with social unrest, as it were - it's off-putting (9) - DEFERMENT (Off-putting)
