Card from old English poet filled with love (10)

?a?t?b?a?d

The only word I can think of to fit just means the same as cardboard, which works with a cryptic definition for the last bit, but what about the first bit ? So I wonder if I have something wrong or if there is some hidden depth in there??

Thanks.

Looks ok to me, old = past + the rest you have.

Thanks both! I was just blinded by seeing Bard as an 'old English poet', so didn't think about 'past'

I thought there were several disappointing clues this week. Definitely not up to the usual standard.
