I think the other one might be AREDD - past tense of AREAD (Construed in the past)

Because of illness and then work commitments this is the first time I have been able to look at EV for quite a while. I have my usual problem. Apart from still needing 27 down -
Americans in Colorado University rejected form ( u?es ) - I cannot see where the highlighted cells should be. Give me a crossword rather than a word search any time. A pointer in the right direction would be much appreciated.

27 Utes, Americans in Colorado (Native Americans, I think). The highlighting is all over the place - literally! There's a one bit (the author) near Utes, the others are nearer the top.
