Rue girl going astray having got braver after suffering upset, say (9, 4)

The solution seems to be "irregular verb" - anagram of rue girl, braver - and that fits the crossers. But where is the definition?

I gathered from studying French and Latin at school that most verbs consistently follow one of several patterns and that irregular verbs are unique exceptions. But if English officially has only one conjugation (I didn't know!) then classes of verbs which follow a different pattern will be lumped in with "to be" as being irregular.
