24 HARPO
23 HOT AIR (but a common error - it's PHILEAS, not PHINNEAS)

It's surprising, don' t you think, Chris, that an error such as getting Phileas Fogg's name wrong should occur in a crossword?
I am quite shocked.
I would have expected the compiler of the puzzle to be accurate, especially when involving such a well-known writer as Jules Verne.

It is a common error, though, elle (though more usually PHINEAS rather than PHINNEAS).

I suppose that PHINEAS is so much more common a name than PHILEAS! :)

Ummm, yes, that may be true, but doesn't excuse the inaccuracy!
A poor do!

I wasn't being enirely serious, elle!. Certainly Fogg is the only Phileas I have heard of, but Phineas is barely more common (though I think that Barnum of Barnum and Bailey was called Phineas).

Yes, you are right.
P.T. Barnum, as in Phineas Taylor.

btw sammie, the connection to the clue is that Fogg and Passepartout crossed the Alps in a hot-air balloon - certainly in the film; it's so long since I read the book that I can't remember if it features in that too.
