Any idea of 1d - 4 letters - s-a- a gap or opening in a wall, hedge etc?

Also 13a - 5 letters e-g-e tidal bore, notably of Humber, Severn estuaries

finally - 4d 3,4 letters money raised by government to pay for armed conflict I've got war -o-n.

I would have thought the third was "war fund"

Thanks folks. I'm still stuck with 1d - 4 letters s-a-. A gap or opening in a wall, hedge etc. Am tempted to go for span. Any advance on that???

I always thought that "slap" was something that went with "tickle". I must invest in a copy of Chambers.

Apparently it's a Scottish word, which I suppose explains why it's not in common use! But you're obviously a serious cruciverbalist, Kookaburra -Chambers is essential - best for all the obscure words we've never heard of - or the meaning of.
