Thanks, syzzie. Quite enjoyable. Starred: 28 and 39 A, 8, 13, 15, and 23 D. I had a brain freeze with 5 D; I never use the American spelling.

Thanks for posting, Syzygy, enjoyed.
All finished except for the components of 27. I have i., which fits, and the other must be g. but I don't see 'Father Nelson's circle that is catching some sleep?' (5)

Hello, mattrom. Google "Ozzie and Harriet"- very popular sitcom over fifty years ago. Do you use zz for sleep on your continent?

Ah! Of course. Thank you aristo, now I remember the show.
I am familiar with zz, mainly from cartoons (and crosswords)

Thanks syzygy. I am somewhat confused here and feel I am missing something. After filling in the grid from the clues given I found there were very few options for the unclued. (One in fact was already complete - 26a holiday) and thus completed the grid. Please tell me where I have gone astray!

HOLIDAYS and the other five unclued entries will each be matched with two of the twelve components in a certain way. For HOLIDAYS the two are l (lower-case L) and b.

Hi Aristophanes.
I have completed filling in the grid which is all I have to do to submit it. Why do I have to bother with the components aspect? 27a has ?AM?K?ZE and there's only one word which fits. The same applies to the other unclued lights.

Perhaps the components should be listed beside the clues for them. If you're sending from the UK, note that it must arrive in NY by Friday. See my message to mattrom regarding the unclued answer you mentioned; that might help.

Thanks syzygy, I was late getting to this, enjoyable as usual. The combined components of 27a had me smiling and like aristo I liked 39a * but also 13d. Cheers.
