44A Become more difficult to hug when topless (7). T?U?G?N. Looks like "Toughen", although a don't like the definition, but how does it parse cryptically?

52D Short description of a book gives a confused impression (4).
?L?R. Looks like "Blur", but if so how does it parse?

44 Toughen is an anagram of 'to hug (w)hen' - the word 'when' is topless, loses its first letter.

52 Blurb is the description of a book - 'blur' is that word shortened ('short') and then is a 'confused impression'.
