Hi Trevor,Sorry I did'nt get back to you last night. I also put in both of those answers and
did'nt get the drift,tho I think cup-tied is a
a technical term in football. Job as in Job's
comforter I think it is a stretch of one's imagination here. The other two AU(l)STERE,
and MA-GA-D-LEN-E I hope you get the idea.
Best wishes,
Jerry

p.s. Jerry. I got this from wikipedia.
"Cup-tied is an adjective, used primarily in football, to describe a player who is ineligible to play in a knockout cup competition after transferring from another club during that competition."
I'd not heard of Job's comforter before,I like the phrase. I still can't see the whole picture on this clue.

re 44a. Comforter's puzzled reflection-not much to do(3,3)
could it be,Comforter says to Job:
"God's been acting odd, Job. You must have been a naughty boy"?
(I'm paraphrasing)

All I say is that I'm sure that's right, unless of course it isn't. And the same goes for my own suggestion.
