Quick .... before 1190 arrives ! Stuck in bottom l.h. corner. 40d "One of the pack left, and making for central area". Only got H_A_ _ _ _ _ D. If I get this, I guess I can do 52a "Mountain-dweller's companion taking a month in Paris" - no doubt a French month included .... but I still can't see the answer. If I get these, I think 43d and 49a will fall into place.

40 Heartland, central area. Heart/one of the pack +L/left+And.
