You probably have had to solve this puzzle to help me.

Six answers + a final letter make the names of English
authors.

I think 4 of them are 1d , 19d, 25a, & 20a.

Help with the remaining two will be great.

What are the answers/letters you have and the remainng clues, please? Not all of us have the crossword and we like to help if we can.

4a could be bragg - giving G - a six letter English author -would Greene fit?
And , my goodness thank you for writing all that out. I did not mean to put you to that trouble.

It has to be a final letter added so Bragg would qualify
but not Greene.

The ones I think I have solved are -

25a read E
20a peak E

I should have explained that the 6 letters make up the name
of another English author

If you add FrayN - your letters spell Greene?

Fray+N - Michael Frayn is an author. I think!

Clue for 12a - Fray(n).

Thanks, AB. When I first read the original post, I thought it was to be the same letter added, giving authors. When you got Greene, I realised that Fray(n) which I had seen, would work.
