As I don't have the latest edition of Brewer I doubt
I will be able to fill the grid but would like to know if the
title 'Faithful' refers to dogs?

I don't have this edition either but most are googlable or on yahoo. Having special difficulty with unclued 12d ?AR??TTI?S.
I don't intend buying it for one clue.

I have the same letters as you for 12d but don't know
the answer.

Can you help with 23d?
Certainly not a theme-word- though just a bit! (4) ATO?

I'm thinking atom

I think 23 D is Atom/ A Tom (as opposed to A ...)

12 D. begins with G if you want to try Googling - or post again if you'd like a bigger hint or the answer.

Thank you. Not easily found on google but found a French entry. The animal was killed by Hercules apparently.

Glad you got there, blignop - though it wasn't worth getting to really! It was a very unsatisfying crossword, I feel.

11a is last dog to be found. I have ?od?eydh?o......a hint would be welcome. Perhaps Rodney. Puzzle generally too easy but dog chase wearisome. I agree about Doc and Brewer,
