Mean-sounding fish?

In view of how easy it seems to accidentally double or triple post on this site, it would be nice if you could delete a post which has no replies.

Indeed it would, but this forum isn't one of the usual bunch like Simple Machines, Invision or vBulletin and seems to be proprietry to Evoluted New Media, who are the hosts. I think we need to direct that sort of comment to them via the Contact button at the top right of the screen.
