I have hit the wall.

16a. Leisurely pilgrimage goes to reinvigorating a canon (12 two words) ----G-A--U--.

16a is an anagram of GOES TO + A ROUND (as per chrise's post) = STOOGE AROUND, 'pilgrimage' in the definition being a verb (= to wander) and 'leisurely' being an adverb (= in an unhurried fashion).
