Trying to finish this before tomorrows instalment.
Got theme and treatment of down clues early - but solving some of the clues has dragged on - should be easier given knowledge of what was removed. Anyway, hints would be appreciated with the following:

2d Getting into league gave the means of European classification (10)

20d like a type of flour
21d answer is made up of three bits - long jail sentence,money paid to landlord, what you win when playing cards
25d afraid of divine ruler. The L is not right - what have you got for the crossing word?

2d starts with gave something to eat to, ends with sailor, with an E in the middle

29d begins with F (following), ends in another word for call (as in phone). Middle bit is is the trumpet (it's an old word in Chambers that is the same, almost, for entice or bait). The T is wrong - what is your crossing word?
