So near yet so far again. Please, help needed with 30d. 6 letters. Danes, for example, investing dean in church. I have ??AI?E.
Also, 43a. 6 letters. Lay a charge against employee in hospital. I have 'remand' but cannot parse.
(There may be a redundant letter in down clue.)
I do have 1a by the way, but do not know how to use that information yet.

30D is a woman's name. First name of a famous person called Danes.
I'm also stuck on 43A.

43 is thematic. The hospital employee isn't a nurse or a doctor - and when the word is changed,it's strong dark stuff.

I realised my post was slightly ambiguous- sorry. The employee and the thematic word are strong.

I can guess how the grid entry has to be changed, and that it's two words adding up to 6 letters, but can't see how to do this and still end up with real words in the rest of the grid.

Nelson I have an A in 35d! Where am I wrong please? I still can't catch up with you and Malone. You are so quick to romp away and I feel like a plodding carthorse to you respected Derby winners.

Jogamel, your 'a' in 35 D simply needs to be an 'o'. (I haven't checked in Chambers, but I am almost certain that the word will be there .

I haven't done the last stage, Nelson - I'm having a very busy day and evening.
