You're welcome.
I just hope the magazine delivery returns to normal.

Thanks, syzzie. Very nice; so many great clues. My favorites are for four-letter words- 33 and 27- and the setter's "favorite clue ever" is quite something too.

Hi syzygy
This looks like a very interesting problem but I just do not understand the instructions. To help me get going could you possibly give me an example using say 6d the answer for which I assume is sphere. Thanks

All answers begin at their appropriate numbers, so it's not quite as daunting as it looks. In your case, the Sph will go in the grid at 6 D - and then you decide where the rest goes! It will be one column from Sph, but you will probably have to wait until you have more answers and letters. My way in was to put in the beginnings of all the answers I had and then see what developed.

farr, you can write the 1st 3 letters in as normal and, as there are only 6 letters to sphere you can tell that the other 3 letters need to go in an adjacent column (because each answer is displaced at least once).
In fact they can only go in one place in this case.
