Marnie, CARJACKS is a double definition - steals a car (commandeers estate) and a device for lifting a car to change a tyre (they give access to flat).

Thanks giddy and Bullfrog, I see it all now. I do this crossword every week and usually manage to finish it without help. Maybe I'm being a bit thick this week but there are times when you just don't see the answer (even when it's staring you in the face). I did find this week's crossword more difficult than usual, as you can see by my posts, but apparently I'm not the only one. So, sorry EdwardBear if I have irritated you, I'll try harder next time..............

Actually EdwardBear that 'carjacks' answer was so blatantly obvious I am truly embarrassed and I can't blame you for thinking that I'm as thick as two short ones!
