Irish girl with, for instance, Scottish fellow. (9)

I had alternate letters and the only answer on the Quick Solve page was GALWEGIAN.

It fitted the clue (GAL EG IAN), but said it referred to the Scottish district of Galloway.

Looks as though the compiler thought it referred to the Irish district of Galway!

Maybe it's optional!

Sorry - missed out the W for 'with' - GAL W EG IAN !!

Eg is for instance
Ian is Scottish fellow.

Galwegian - Irish, from Galway. (In Chambers, alongside the Galloway bit.)

Galwegian can also be a native of Galloway Scotland
