I have a problem parsing a clue. More info follows in the next post.

OK. The clue is:

13D Sullen strong copper appraised (10) F?U?T?A?E?

The obvious answer is FRUSTRATED, but does that really mean "sullen"? I see "appraised" as RATED, but how does FRUST fit with "strong copper". Chambers defines FRUST as "a fragment".

Any insight would be helpful.

Strong - F (forte)
Copper - Rust
Appraised - Rated

Frustrated- Sullen

copper = rust and F = strong ?
