Making steady, if slow, progress but I'm wondering if there is a mistake with the clues.
There are 4 4-letter answers; I have two of them correctly positioned I think.
However there are 2 'N' clues - identically worded but there is no 'Z' clue as there usually is with this type of alphabetical crossword. The 'N' clue(s) has a 4-letter answer so I suppose my 2 missing 4-letter answers could both begin with 'N' and there is no 'Z' clue - but seems odd. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

'N' clue is:
'G having dropped g, line up for present season (4)'
Don't have answer for 'G' if that's what's meant.
'Present season' could mean 'Noel' - but think I need some help here.
Also, one of missing 4-letter answers ends in 'O'.

I have the final 4-letter slot as ?E?O, so zero would fit if there is supposed to be a 'Z' clue.
NOEL fits another slot but I can't parse it apart from 'present season'

We is all in da same boat ere . Can't parse N , Guessed Z Rest done despite numerous misdirects.

'Noel' & 'Zero' fit my other answers - stuck on 'B' & 'G' - hints appreciated (rather not have answers just yet.)

B's hint is ''Think Mugabe'' .

For G an anagram within a word , but unless you have specialist knowledge you will need to google bacteria types , as I did , Your missing light is an unhelpful 'e'

My last response was for 'B' hint - hadn't seen your 'G' hint. But your hint/advice to 'Google' bacteria did the trick! No specialist knowledge - never heard of it - wouldn't have got it; so thanks a lot.
I expect an update will be made to the crossword if we are right about 'N' & 'Z'.

PS. I thought getting 'G' might help with parsing 'N' but it doesn't. But another 'Google' tells me a 'geon' is a gravitational wave - so perhaps 'G' = gravity/geon; dropping 'g' gives 'eon' then line = 'l' - don't like 'up' much but it gives 'leon' which when read down gives 'noel' - our present season.
Not the best of clues IMO.
