32 D, which supplied the 'o' in Go ... is

Blackmail to stay with children's author for speech (4,2,6)

I think the first word has to be Hold (To Ransom) as this fits with the present tense in Blackmail.

Another reminder of how language never stands still
When I was at school, long, long ago, "pear-shaped," said of a person, meant that he (or she) was beside himself with range, e.g. Q. Was the Head angry?
A. Angry? He was pear-shaped.
