Help with some queries please.

1. A pupil wnt round Northern Ireland plant (4)
-n-l thinkeing ANIL - any other ideas?

2. Man sounds promising IS-E (4) Thinking ISSE but cant see why.

3. Managed to get through (7) - PIERCED - I can see 'get through' (he pierced his armour) but is there something more cryptic I am missing?
