Stuck on 1a and 2d. Anyone able to furnish? I'm intrigued by the comments about Pete in the current most recent post. I've not used this site before by the way. I assume I don't post suggestions for answers as could be spoilers for others.

1ac.
The motto of The RAF is: Per Ardua ad Astra
"Through Adversity/Struggles to the Stars."
So in this case 'RAF stars' = Astra; 500 in Roman numerals = "D" - the definition is 'Indicator of future.' Hope this helps.

2d.

I think this is simply the sound of 'tray (a carrier)' and its origin/first letter 'T' - giving 'Trait.'
