Clue is 'left in the cooker to be divided'

Why is the answer 'totem'???

Well that's interesting. Totem is the word that fits the letters of the adjoining words and is also the correct answer in the online solution. We thought of 'split' as well and thought there must have been an error in the puzzle.

Then I googled the clue and came up with a wordplays.com crossword solver and it lists the answer to that clue as totem!

totem meaning "the whole"
therefore it is to be divided

Where does the cooker come into it?
I prefer Les's answer.

hmmm Can't find that definition for totem. Also where 'left in the cooker' fit in?

Totem is correct but it seems to be a double clue before ending up with the final answer

totem is Latin

totem (tutto in Italian) meaning the whole, or entire

c'mon! the answer to that clue has to be Split, surely?
