Has anyone started today's Inquisitor? If you have, can you get me started off by helping with 1a? They're used to pick retired soldiers, strong and athletic. There is a one letter misprint in the definition and the length of grid entry is given as 7 (but may not be)[ I think living in Italy for a while has addled my brain (too much wine)]

Son, 1D is a normal six letter entry with no spaces. The corrected misprint gives S.
