METAR not in Chamber's Dictionary, Norm. Under METER one definition is indicator, so think I'd go with that. Not sure how the forecasters' doubt fits in!

Metar is an aviation term for a local area or airfield weather report, not a forecast.

Aviation jargon is littered with acronyms and abbreviations. It's surprising it's not used more widely in crosswords.
