19A: Sharp point in old letter (5)
T?O?N
Obviously 'thorn' = 'sharp point' (def)
but cannot account for 'in old letter'?
Can anyone explain, please?

"thorn" is the name for an old letter. It looked a bit like a Y, but was pronounced "th" - hence "Ye old sweet shop" should actually be pronounced "The....."
