Romp with old doctor in play (6) T?M?O? maybe tomboy but why?

O(ld) MB (Bachelor of Medicine - "doctor") in TOY (play with).

However ROMP seems to be a verb, while TOMBOY seems to be a noun - any advance on this?

Thanks your logic is great but yes romp does not equte to tomboy.

If the def. is romp (noun) that's OK
one that romps; especially : a romping girl or woman

not convinced, jazzy - romp is something a person does, whereas tomboy is a person
