5a. Note misuse of "me" and "I", borders on careless one (8) - SOLECISM (I think!)

If Note = SOL + ME + I + C(areles)S, why is 'One' at the end of the clue? - I think I've parsed this incorrectly.

I am not happy with this one either. Odd to have the definition in middle of clue like this, I am assuming that the one refers to solecism itself. I agree with your parsing. Perhaps the whole clue is the definition. Let's us hope some more experienced heads will come to our aid.

Isn't 'misuse' = 'solecism' the definition?

I believe it's a partial &lit clue where the wordplay is also the solution, partial as it requires the insertion of "one" to work as rogerw stated.

@ brendan, did you see my reply to your PS on the Sunday Times thread last week?

I feel that the whole clue is the definition... would this make it an &lit ?

One feels that the misuse of me for I is a solecism :)

Got it, thanks everyone. I always seem to get caught out by these '& Lit.' clues, hopefully I spot them in future.

RE: @ brendan, did you see my reply to your PS on the Sunday Times thread last week?

Hi Ginge, thanks for that, I've just gone back and seen it, and I take your point about it not being an anagram.
