Just a query - I 'm perhaps quibbling over nothing
here.....
18A: Keep close to English giant (4)
The answer is HUGE
Keep close to = hug
E =English
Huge= giant (definition)
but giant is a noun ( the adj would be 'gigantic') and huge is an adjective....
Am I missing something here? please put me out of my misery!!

Hi elle, "giant" is both noun and adjective.

Hi, ginge - not according to 'Chambers' ! and I've never come across it as such - gigantic is the adjective, surely?
I've looked at your ref and agree it says that, but it sounds very ungrammatical to me!

Hi again Elle, as an adjective giant/gigantic are interchangeable as you will see in the list of synonyms.
The giant/gigantic planet Jupiter for example are both acceptable, as antonyms of small.
Hope this helps.
