31 No Joke, serious matter. It's Nook/recess+j/judge and the 'e' a t the beginning of 'explain'.

"cameo" is a gem, and BIJOU is the French for gem or stone...

Lecrack, thanks. I'd got the cameo=gem=bijou bit, but I didn't really like the rest of the clue!
