Am I to assume all the usual suspects have completed this week's Inquisitor. I have too many blanks to even appeal for help today!

No jogamel, I think it's the opposite. This one is a rock.
I have only about a quarter of the entries and will resume struggle after this cup of tea.

Not finished yet, but I do have the 6 answers clued without definition and have entered them in the grid. I don't fully understand all the engagent malarkey in the preamble. 9d and 26 d are still causing problems and I think they are both "normal". Tribesman uncovered material craze in America sacking flier. (7) ?a??tie. And 23d Writer's chief descendant died - sons accomplished desire originally (7) s?yb?a? Any nudges would be appreciated !

Sorry marca, not that far on.
Is 4D thematic, and is the hidden word in the clue relevant or just coincidence?

26d is normal, but 9d and 23d are not. Their clues need to be disengaged according to the instruction mentioned in the preamble.

Nelson, you are correct on both thoughts about 4d. Kobnut, thanks for that, but, strangely, I thought I already had 6 odd length answers, so wasn't looking for any more. Back to it now with fresh eyes.

Hi everyone, my understanding is that the six thematic answers without definition are all of normal length, but are treated before entry. The empty cells are generated by other clues. Am I on the right track?

Hi Christamac
I have one thematic answer without definition that gives the wrong length in its clue.
