I have looked at all the "kitty" connections to this clue but feel the answer "Black Maria" isn't right. It's a tenuous link to "old Kitty" in the question.

The fact that 'kitty' is an archaic term for jail and a 'black maria'. was the vehicle that took you there seems sound enough to me.
