Is the parsing for 28 across slighty risque? Or am I missing something

The answer is defined as "a room, cupboard, or other storage space that contains an untidy and miscellaneous collection of objects". Chambers does not contain the "risque" definition that you might find in,say, the Urban Dictionary. So the setter was either unaware, or a very naughty boy.

Depends where you look for the definition. ;-)

Maybe I lead a sheltered life, but I thought it a very good clue and solution.

It has a Guardian paul esque feel to it. The Ryder cup ref evokes the American slang "junk"..
