Can anyone help? and I'll need it explaining too, please, as I've been through every vowel and cannot make sense of it!

PIN, I think - it's a cask (4 1/2 gallons), but the other definition is iffy - if you are putting the "pin" (flag) should be out of the hole - or at least held by someone to take it out!
