24a looks like NIGERIA (anagram of I regain).

25d will be RAT (deserts sinking ship) as it is TAR backwards (capsized sailor).

17a - I would have thought ELICITED (ELI and CITED)but that does not tally with the number of letters or those you have already in the solution.
