An admirable answer, the only problem being that the clue supplied was wrong. The correct (and very poor) clue is:

21D Large vessel's inner layer (5)

Think Lusitania.

Is sidel a word? - Can't find it in Chambers. Think of the inside of your coat, if Titanic doesn't help.
