NB: the date for the solution is always one day later than that for the puzzle.

Typo in clue C. Last word should be "force".

Tip: for puzzles like this, write the unplaced answers on graph paper.

In this case, the Spirals. Check letter groups against the crossing Radials.

Re clue C - never mind. My printer dropped the E. Why !?

Looks like fun.

Thanks, syzzie. It's so nice to do a puzzle that doesn't require a dictionary or Google and looks impossible to solve but is actually rather simple because of marvelous construction. The last WSJ crossword you posted had exceptionally fine clues, I thought, whereas this one was more about "choreography". You never know what to expect from these setters, but it's always a pleasure.

Thanks, all. Glad that you enjoyed it. Probably should have saved it for New Year's Eve.

My favourite clues were S - f, o, t, R - 5, 10, 13, 14.

I will check every Friday. It's not always a cryptic; sometimes a "variety" puzzle. *
I prefer the former, but occasionally the latter is noteworthy. If not, I might post one from the archives. Depends on time available. You can browse & search the site here:
http://blogs.wsj.com/puzzle/
* NB: a search with "cryptic" will return both types. The categorization is not always accurate.

Hope the next Harper's arrives this week.

@ginge - your post #4 has (5) at the end so I suppose it's one of your infamous clues.
No idea. You'll have to parse it for me.

Hi syzygy, nothing more cryptic than a reference to clue (5) which I thought was particularly nice after I "clicked". Thanks again, looking forward to Harper's.
