I have STASH , PASTED & LIED for the clues
in italics but what is the connection?

They all correspond to other unclued answers

Art song is lied for example

The wordplay for lied stash and pasted gives longer answers which have had something removed.

If you google 1d it gives you 3 things . Synonyms of these are removed from the answers to give the grid entry.
