Bit complicated but here goes.
(I think the answer is five letters, and letter e is missing)
'Friendly greeting, full of useful content.'

It doesn't begin with C. Although the intersecting down answer does end with C.

Could be MEATY (full of useful content) entry MATY (alt. spelling of MATEY - friendly greeting) but not totally convinced.

Thanks Kobnut. I can see the Latin phrase and how it resolves the three letters, but I still cannot see the "two classic variations". Are the three letters meant to be one of the variations? If so can you give me a hint to the other?
