I omitted the final dash in the clue Not available to me, without being anonymous (8) _ _ M _ L _ S _ Apologies for that. That penultimate S is dependent on the initial S of Scholar's mate.

Hope that is not too confusing!

To Aljanon and Bullfrog - Thank you both so much. I am in awe (and envious) of your talent. Maybe some day I'll manage.......
There are 2 other clues which I have been bold enough to fill in - even though I am baffled by the first of them:
It's cold here, and cold in lorry (6) _ _ _ T _ C I wrote ARCTIC
The R of Arctic gives me R _ O _ whhich must be RIOT for the answer to Chariots surrounding commotion (4) That just seemed TOO easy in the light of the level of difficulty of some of the others.
