Owrie is a Scots word for dreary.
O for old.
An author would "wr(it)e".
Giving "owrie".

Cannae is Scots for cannot.
Downa is Scots for cannot/cannae.
Can wife. Remove w for wife from downa and you have "dona" for sweetheart.
