Please help me with the above non-cryptic crossword. Is it NOSES around or something else?

eases?

unless it's a mole, nosing around my garden.

If EASES is correct, then my 26A clue A certain nut (5)A?O?? may be wrong. I had put it as ACORN and so thought NOSES around may be okay, but if it is EASES then what is A?O?E which is a certain nut?

Around is not forward, though?

acorn iounds as though it's correct (oak nut)

Acorn looks ok to me.
As Rusty says around is not forward whatever you put in front of it.

I think the clues are very poor.
