26 a) Me, appearing in full state (5)

I got this as Maine and have seen that Maine is correct but I don't understand how.
There is 'in' inside Me, the abbreviation for Maine...is the 'a' supposed to stand for 'appearing'?

ME is the abbreviation for MAINE, so "in full", ME would be....?
